Permanent makeup (PMU), also known as microblading and micropigmentation, is a cosmetic procedure to create long lasting makeup including eyeliner, lip and eyebrow definition.
The pigment is inserted into the dermal layer of the skin, lasting around 12-18 months.
The pigment used (unlike tattoo inks) is able to be broken down by the skin over time, meaning the pigment will gradually fade away.
It is so important to Kaylise to create natural permanent makeup, as she says, you can always add but never take away. This way you can keep up with the trends for years to come!
Permanent makeup causes a minimal amount of discomfort.
At Kaylise North Permanent Makeup, she uses an anaesthetic cream to numb the area before and during the treatment to keep the pain very minimal.
You may feel light pressure and a lot of Kaylise’s clients fall asleep during their treatment.
Permanent makeup is a form of tattooing, the differences are that tattooing goes deeper into the skin, hence why it is permanent.
Tattoo artists also use ink, for permanent makeup we use pigments.
Pigments are made to be broken down in the skin over time (they are made with very small molecules).
Inks are made with larger molecules and cannot be broken down by the skin.
Microblading and micropigmentation both come under the same umbrella of permanent makeup.
Microblading is a semi-permanent technique for enhancing the appearance of your eyebrows.
Using a manual microblade (formed of micro-needles) it creates crisp strokes mimicking a natural hair strand.
Scratching the skin to implant the pigment creates the crisp hairstrokes, making a very natural but fuller looking brow.
Microblading lasts 10-12 months, with recommended annual top-ups (NOT suitable for oily skin types).
Micropigmentation is also a semi-permanent technique which is used for cosmetic and medical enhancements.
At Kaylise North Permanent Makeup, micropigmentation is used for brow, lips and eyeliner enhancements.
Using a tattoo machine, pigment is implanted into the skin with a micro-needle to create different styles for example, hairstroke, combination and ombre or powder brows.
Lasting 12-18 months, with recommended annual top-ups.
For the first 4 days, you may experience minor redness and puffiness, mild tenderness, itchiness and dry flaky skin, these are all normal and part of the healing process.
Daily care for 7 days, keep your enhancement dry, no excessive sweating and do not splash you face.
However, do clean your enhancement twice daily with damp cotton pads.
Some itching is normal but DO NOT pick, peel or rub your enhancement as this could lead to scarring.
Allow your enhancement to flake away naturally.
No direct sunlight, makeup or beauty products for the first 2 weeks post appointment.
You will go through a few stages during the healing process, initially the colour will start off sharper and bolder in colour, it will soften out in the skin during the healing process.
Day 7-10, the enhancement will start to go dry and flaky, the colour underneath will look very light, please allow around 4 weeks for the colour to settle.
Bear in mind that some unevenness of colour is expected, this is the purpose of the 4-12 week touch up session. Long term care, use a good SPF as the sun will fade your enhancement.

Ombre brow is micropigmentation, using a tattoo machine, pigment is implanted into the skin with a micro-needle creating tiny pixels that are layered to create the brow.
Using this technique, Kaylise can implant more or less pigment in your skin, meaning you can have a super soft and translucent brow, or you can have a more defined ‘makeup’ look.
It is called an ombre brow as the tails of the brows will be darker and the bulbs (fronts) of the brows are slightly softer, making sure they are not harsh at the fronts, as no one wants a ‘block brow’.
