Permanent makeup is a cosmetic tattooing treatment used to enhance features such as the brows, lips and eyes by implanting specialist pigment into the skin.

Unlike conventional makeup, the results remain visible day to day and gradually soften and fade over time. Treatments can be designed to look extremely natural or more defined depending on the client’s features and desired result.

Absolutely. Natural enhancement is at the heart of Kaylise’s work.

Every treatment is individually designed around the client’s existing features, natural colouring, skin type and desired result. Brows can be kept soft and realistic, lip blush can provide a subtle wash of colour and eyeliner can range from delicate lash enhancement to a more defined finish.

The aim is to enhance what is already there rather than create a one-size-fits-all result.

Microblading and micropigmentation both come under the same umbrella of permanent makeup. 

Microblading is a semi-permanent technique for enhancing the appearance of your eyebrows. 

Using a manual microblade (formed of micro-needles) it creates crisp strokes mimicking a natural hair strand. 

Scratching the skin to implant the pigment creates the crisp hairstrokes, making a very natural but fuller looking brow.

Microblading lasts 10-12 months, with recommended annual top-ups (NOT suitable for oily skin types).

Micropigmentation is also a semi-permanent technique which is used for cosmetic and medical enhancements. 

At Kaylise North Permanent Makeup, micropigmentation is used for brow, lips and eyeliner enhancements. 

Using a tattoo machine, pigment is implanted into the skin with a micro-needle to create different styles for example, hairstroke, combination and ombre or powder brows. 

Lasting around 12 months, with recommended annual top-ups. 

The best treatment depends on your natural brows, skin type and the finish you would like to achieve.

Hairstroke brows are ideal for the most natural-looking result, using individual machine hairstrokes to mimic real brow hair.

Ombré brows use soft, pixelated shading and are ideal for clients wanting a polished, softly filled-in appearance.

Combination brows blend hairstrokes with shading for clients wanting natural texture with additional fullness and definition.

Most clients find permanent makeup much more comfortable than they initially expect.

A topical anaesthetic is used to help keep discomfort to a minimum, and Kaylise will ensure you are comfortable throughout your appointment.

Sensitivity varies from person to person and between treatment areas, but many clients describe the sensation as mild and some even fall asleep during their treatment.

Every permanent makeup appointment is individually tailored, but the process is similar whether you are having your brows, lips or eyeliner treated.

Your appointment begins with a detailed consultation where Kaylise will discuss the result you would like to achieve, your usual makeup preferences, natural features and any concerns or questions you may have.

Colour selection is an important part of every treatment. Kaylise will guide you through suitable pigment choices, taking into consideration your natural colouring, skin tone, existing brow hair or lip colour and the type of result you would like.

The treatment area is then carefully mapped and pre-drawn, allowing you to see the proposed shape, placement and overall design before any permanent makeup begins. The design is tailored to your individual features rather than following a standard shape or template.

Nothing is started until you are happy with the design and colour choices. There is plenty of opportunity to discuss or adjust the design beforehand so you feel comfortable and confident moving forward.

Numbing is used to help keep the treatment as comfortable as possible, and Kaylise will talk you through the process as the permanent makeup is gradually built up.

Once complete, you’ll be able to see the finished treatment and Kaylise will explain what to expect during healing and how to care for the area at home, with aftercare guidance provided for your specific treatment.

Permanent makeup is designed to gradually soften and fade over time, with most clients finding their results last around a year or so before they would benefit from refreshing.

Kaylise generally recommends an annual colour boost to refresh the pigment, maintain the shape and keep the treatment looking its best.

How quickly permanent makeup fades will vary from person to person and can be influenced by skin type, lifestyle, sun exposure, skincare, treatment area and individual pigment retention.

Some clients may find their permanent makeup lasts longer than a year, while others prefer to refresh their treatment sooner. Kaylise’s colour boost pricing is based on the amount of time that has passed since your previous treatment.

Immediately after treatment, the colour will usually appear stronger and more defined than the final healed result. Mild redness, tenderness or swelling can also occur depending on the treatment area.

As the skin heals, the pigment will soften and the final result will become more natural.

It’s important not to judge the finished colour immediately after your appointment as permanent makeup goes through several stages during healing.

The initial visible healing generally takes around 7 to 14 days, although the pigment continues to settle in the skin beyond this.

During the first week you may experience some dryness, flaking, itching or slight unevenness in colour. This is a normal part of the healing process.

It is important to allow any dry or flaky skin to come away naturally and never pick or peel the treatment area, as this can affect pigment retention.

Full aftercare instructions will be provided following your treatment.

Permanent makeup heals differently from person to person, so some clients may require additional pigment once the initial treatment has healed.

Where applicable, a top-up allows Kaylise to assess the healed result and refine areas where the pigment may have healed lighter or unevenly.

Your individual treatment information will explain whether a top-up is included or recommended and the appropriate timeframe for booking it.

Potentially, but existing permanent makeup must be assessed before booking.

The remaining pigment, colour, saturation, shape and condition of the skin all need to be considered. If the previous permanent makeup is too dark, heavily saturated or unsuitable in shape, removal or further fading may be recommended before a new treatment can be carried out.

Please send clear photographs of the existing permanent makeup to Kaylise before booking.

Most people can have permanent makeup, but certain medical conditions, medications, skin conditions and circumstances may mean treatment needs to be postponed or may not be suitable.

Permanent makeup is not carried out during pregnancy. If you are breastfeeding, taking medication, undergoing medical treatment or have a condition that may affect healing, please contact Kaylise before booking so your individual circumstances can be discussed.

Yes, but injectable treatments should be appropriately spaced from your permanent makeup appointment to allow the area to fully settle.

Kaylise recommends allowing at least 2 weeks between Botox and permanent makeup, either before or after your appointment.

For dermal filler, including lip filler, allow at least 4 weeks before or after permanent makeup, particularly when the treatments involve the same area.

This allows any swelling, bruising and changes to the treated area to settle before permanent makeup is mapped and carried out, and gives the skin appropriate time to heal between treatments.
